At Colorado Adolescent Counseling, we often see children and adolescents struggling with overwhelming emotions that stem from difficult family experiences. These emotions can feel impossible to manage alone—but with the right tools and guidance, real change is possible.

Problem: A 20-year-old young adult came to counseling feeling overwhelmed by two major life transitions — the emotional toll of a recent divorce and the uncertainty of starting over with a new career path. They reported high levels of anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and a sense of losing direction in both their personal and professional life.

Solution: Through counseling, we used a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and career exploration strategies to help them:

  • Identify and challenge negative thought patterns linked to self-doubt.

  • Develop healthy coping mechanisms for managing stress and grief.

  • Rebuild self-confidence and set achievable short-term goals.

  • Explore career options that aligned with their strengths, values, and long-term aspirations.

Results: Within several months, the client reported a significant reduction in anxiety and improved emotional stability. They were able to process the end of their relationship with greater acceptance and clarity. On the career side, they successfully transitioned into a new professional training program and expressed excitement about building a fresh future. The client described feeling “like myself again, but stronger and more resilient than before.”
